Aart Bosua

The second conductor of the Pretoria Bach Choir

Aart Bosua was born on 29 October 1953 in Maun, Botswana and has a solid music background. He started piano lessons at the age of 6 with Riek Marais and then continued with Goldie Zaidel from the age of 13. He remained under her tutorship until she retired in 1991.

The clarinet was his second instrument, but he specialised in piano in a performing capacity. He obtained five licentiates in piano including a Fellowship of Trinity College of London. He majored in Music and Mathematics at the University of Pretoria and taught Mathematics at the Pretoria Boys’ High School for four years.

He switched to IBM for two years before he became a lecturer in maths at the Pretoria College of Education for 9 years. For the past few years he has been teaching maths and computers at the Pretoria Teachers Training College. As a young performer he made several appearances on radio and gave many concerts.

Aart was a member of the Bach choir for 14 years, before he became conductor of this choir in 1997 after the sudden death of the previous conductor, Bruno Peyer. His great passion is the music of J S Bach.
